Break ice cubes

Bottel-with-Soda12.jpg

This project shows how to accelerate the melting process of the ice without any hassle.

Materials

  • Ice cube
  • Container
  • Tray
  • Piece of fishing line having weights attached both the ends

Instructions

  • Take the container, put it upside down, and keep it on the tray.
  • Put the ice cube on the top of the container.
  • Over the ice cube, keep the fishing line in a way that its weights dangle on the container’s sides.
  • See what happens.

Observation & explanation

Pressure mounted by the weights pulled the fishing line through the ice cube by melting the ice underneath. This rule is applicable in ice-skating, wherein the skater’s blades melt the ice just underneath, thereby enabling the skater to move hassle freely.
