There is a controversy whether flowering time is a qualitative or quantitative trait. More often than not, flowering time is considered a qualitative trait (because of the ease with which it can be categorised into definite classes) particularly in genetic studies. Therefore, is flowering time a qualitative trait or quantitative trait? Secondly, can one study the genetics of flowering time in RILs population at F8 generation and still expect segregation? Thank you.
