A well with inside diameter of 10m is dug 14m deep. Earth is taken out of it is spread all round to a width of 5m to form a embankment. find the height of the embankment.

Given radius of the well = 5 m

Height of the well = 14 m

Width of the embankment = 5 m

Therefore radius of the embankment = 5 + 5 = 10 m

Let h be the height of the embankment

Hence the volume of the embankment = volume of the wellï¿½

That is Ï€(R â€“ r)2h =ï¿½Ï€r2h

(102ï¿½â€“ 52) x hï¿½=ï¿½52ï¿½x 14

(100 â€“ 25) x h = 25 x 14

h = (25 x 14)/75 = 14/3

Therefore, h = 4.67 cm

Height of the well = 14 m

Width of the embankment = 5 m

Therefore radius of the embankment = 5 + 5 = 10 m
