Know the testing pattern

Take a look at the syllabus before you begin your preparation. The 10th CBSE exam tests only for 80 marks. The remaining 20 marks are allotted to internal assessment. So, you must focus on cracking this 80 marks paper with the best answers. This time, a part of your exam will consist of objective type questions too. Being thorough with the testing pattern will help you take a more prepared exam. When you start preparing many months in advance, you will have ample time to organise your preparation.

Repetition is the key

repeat

Science is a subject that requires understanding for better learning rather than mugging up. In this case, it becomes important to keep revising what you have learnt. For best results, it is recommended that small portions of the syllabus are learnt and revised frequently. To increase the number of revisions, you could either study for 25 minutes and take a five-minute break or study for 50 minutes and take a 10-minute break. Repeating this 5-8 times a day will give you enough opportunity to revise what you have learnt. This is called Pomodoro Technique used first in the 1800s to improve productivity in workers.

Find your style of learning

learning styles

Studying for a board exam is an individual experience. No two people can have the same study pattern. See what works best for you. Figure out whether you are an early bird or a night owl. Once you figure this out, make sure you are away from distractions during that time. Science gives the scope to learn through audio-visual content. Explore if that method of learning if it suits you better.

Sharpen your drawing skills

A science exam is incomplete without some diagrams. Spare some of your preparation time to work on your drawing skills. Be it plants or various parts of the human body, you must know how to replicate a diagram in your answer sheet. While your diagrams do not have to be artistic, they definitely should be identifiable at the first glance. Put in some time practising these diagrams and ensure that you label them clearly. These diagrams add value to your answer and will help you score better.

Take care of your body too!

healthy

Don’t forget to stay healthy while studying for your exam. That’s what science says too! Eat, study, sleep and repeat should be your mantra for the last three months before the exam. It is proven that students who have a good night’s sleep retain information 35% better than those who are sleep deprived. Having said that, make sure you don’t oversleep. You should not lose out on study time to get enough sleep. 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep should help you stay active throughout the day and remember all that you have to.
