Conscious machines: How will we test artificial intelligence for feeling?

The human brain has features such as memory, attention, emotions and brain stems which form the neural basis of conscious experience, the reason for our sentience. Our consciousness is separate from our body, and this is the reason we are able to perceive the concepts of swapping of bodies, afterlife and reincarnation.

What if machines also possess such a consciousness?

Dr Susan Scheider, the NASA/Baruch Blumberg Chairperson, has devised tests to examine AI consciousness. She has tried the ACT and microchip test for this purpose with the inference that with the right architectural features, machines can also have the analogue to our consciousness.
