Coursera to start job-relevant online courses for students

Coursera, the online learning platform is planning to offer job-relevant online courses for university students, alumni and faculty. This will be made possible by the tech’s major initiative, Coursera for Campus, which is designed to help universities scale online programs and meet the individual requirements of its beneficiaries.

The introduction of these courses will make it easy for students to enter the workforce in the coming years. With access to 3,600 courses, they will be able to quickly respond to the demands of a changing economy. Professors can either integrate these courses into the curricula or offer them to students as part of supplementary learning projects. Moreover, they can use Coursera’s tools to publish assessments, courses, hands-on projects, private lessons and track learner outcomes. With the availability of content and trend data from a large learner base, the online learning platform will categorise course collections by domain areas.

The initiative has been the product of extensive pilots conducted in more than 20 universities around the world. Major partners include Duke University, University of Illinois and Manipal Academy of Higher Education. Some of these universities have already launched these courses with complete functionalities rolling out in the coming months.
