Kerala plans to set up science centres in every districtTHE GOVERNMENT OF KERALA plans to set up science centres in every district in the state to popularise science. According to Kerala Minister for Education P. K. Abdu Rabb, the government would shortly chalk out an action plan for the same. The science centres aimed to present science education in an interesting way, Mr. Rabb said at the XI all-India conference of the heads of science centres from across the country in Thiruvananthapuram. There are three science centres in Kerala right now – at Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode and Kannur. The government has already granted its approval in principle to set up a science centre at Chalakkudy in Thrissur. There are over 60 science centres across the country at present, and the Union Government plans to set up 500 more in various districts, according to National Council of Science Museum (NCSM) Director-General G. S. Rautela. The conference is organised every year to update and develop the centres in tune with the technological developments.
