Notes On Compound to Simple Sentences - Conversion - CBSE Class 10 English Grammar
A compound sentence can be converted into a simple sentence by 

Combining two independent clauses of the compound sentence into a single clause.
Rewrite the sentence omitting the conjunction used in the compound sentence.

Examples;
1. Compound: He got up and started  studying.
    Simple: Getting up, he started  studying.

2. Compound: He must return the money, or he will be punished.
    Simple: He must return the money to escape punishment.

3. Compound: A shark moust keep swimming or it will die.
    Simple: A shark must keep swimming to stay alive.

4. Compound: Do a good job and you will be rewarded.
    Simple:You will be rewarded for doing a good job.
