There are three main types of prepositions:
1. Prepositions of Time indicate the period of time that something happens (during, from, since, throughout, until, etc).
Example:
• He slept during the lecture.
• The table is near the window.
• He rode on a horse.
• Is the doctor in the room.
2. Prepositions of Place tell us the position of something in relation to another (behind, beside, between, in front, near, etc).
Example:
• Behind his farmhouse is a huge building.
• I sat beside her.
• Someone parked a bike in front of his house.
• I was waiting outside the clinic
3. Prepositions of Direction show direction of movement to somewhere (into, onto, to, etc).
Example:
• A fly got into his tea while he was drinking it.
• The teacher has gone to the office.
• The strong wind blew the wig off his head.
