How to Teach Kids to Argue Well: Tips for Debates

There are several reasons why kids should learn to argue and debate well. Debating helps develop reasoning, research and public speaking skills, which are very important for any kind of career they may have in the future. Furthermore, it adds to social-emotional learning by enabling kids to show empathy, keep emotions in check and resolve conflicts.

Edutopia’s academic experts have come up with a method called the Traverse Talk which helps students build their arguing skills. This fun classroom activity helps students voice their opinions by teaching the basics of debate in an accessible way. It primarily focuses on the ability to critically think on feet in a fast-paced manner, and articulating those thoughts in a crisp form.
