India and China to soon engage in an academic exchange programme

Education officials from India and China met for the first time under a new bilateral mechanism, as part of the Joint Working Group meeting on education held in Beijing last Wednesday. As per the official press release, both countries are planning to recognise each other’s qualifications, and facilitate faculty and student exchanges 

A press release released on Wednesday by the Indian Embassy said, ‘Discussion was also held on exploring the possibility of signing an agreement on mutual recognition of qualifications as well as promoting greater student exchange.’ Promoting ‘educational exchange’ along with ideas of ‘faculty exchange’ was also discussed in the meeting.

According to the press release, both the countries discussed various aspects of their respective educational systems and explored the areas of cooperation. Presently, 23,000 Indian students are studying in China whereas the number of Chinese students studying in India is 300.
