Karnataka to have CBSE syllabus for XI, XII from 2012-13

BANGALORE, 20th December, 2011:- Karnataka will introduce the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus for the pre-university course (PUC) examinations in the science stream (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics) beginning the next academic session – 2012-13. According to Karnataka Minister for Primary Education Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri, the CBSE syllabus would be introduced for first year PUC (Class XI) from 2012-13, and for second year PUC (Class XII) from 2013-14. Students who enter Class XII in 2012-13 would have the state syllabus, he said. The government would conduct a bridge course to help students who enter Class XI after studying the state syllabus in Class X, he also said. Teachers would also be trained, the minister said. The syllabus for PUC was being changed so that students from the state were able to compete in all-India exams, he said. Mr. Kageri said that new text books would be introduced for classes V and VIII from the next academic session, and for other classes from 2013-14.
