‘No entry’ for junk food in CBSE schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas

NEW DELHI, 30th November, 2011:- It will be ‘no entry’ for junk food and aerated soft drinks in Kendiriya Vidyalayas in the country as well as schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). According to Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development D Purandeswari, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has ordered a ban on junk food and aerated drinks in the schools. Similarly, CBSE has advised its affiliated schools to ensure that junk food is not served in their canteens, she said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. The CBSE has also advised its affiliated schools that canteens should serve students only healthy snacks, and that the health and wellness clubs of the schools could monitor this, she said. However, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has not given any such advice to colleges, she said.
