CBSE Releases Timetable for Classes 10, 12 Board Exams; Exams Postponed due to Assembly Polls

Board exams for both classes 10 and 12 will begin on March 9, 2017, CBSE notified on Monday, the 9th of January. The delay in commencement comes as a result of the assembly polls in five states—Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur.

CBSE chairman R K Chaturvedi has however assured that despite the postponement of exams, the results will be released on time. The results of the exams are generally released in the third week of May. A CBSE spokesperson also said that utmost care has been taken to maintain reasonable time gap between the major papers and to ensure that the exams come to a close before JEE and NEET.

Earlier in the midst of speculations about the delay in exams, CBSE had written to the Election Commission to keep the schedule of the board exams in mind while deciding the dates for the polls. In some constituencies of Uttar Pradesh and Goa, voting is also scheduled for 8th March, 2017 and hence CBsE has finally decided to commence the exams only on the 9th.
