Kannada a must in all Karnataka schools

Kannada a must in all Karnataka schools

The government of Karnataka has issued an order to all schools in the state to teach Kannada to their students as a first or second language.  The primary and secondary education minister has written to all schools in this regard, including those affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). The order provides teaching guidelines in consonance with the Kannada Language Learning Act 2015.

The decision was announced after a review meeting with the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB).

While most schools affiliated to the state board already teach Kannada as one of the languages, those under the CBSE and CISCE allow other options to students.

However, it is not clear yet whether the order is to be implemented from the current academic session.
