CBSE Scraps Uniform Assessment Policy for Grades 6-8

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has withdrawn its uniform policy for assessment, examination and report card for grades 6 to 8 following instructions from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), the country’s child right’s body. The NCPCR argued that the evaluation policy violated the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

On March 21’st  2017, after making the Class 10 board exams mandatory, the CBSE issued a new set of instructions for evaluation of students from classes 6 to 8. This circular on assessment policy had mentioned that the policy would “increase the confidence in the students start preparing for class 10 board exams.”

Under the new system, assessments would be divided into two parts — 80 marks for the final test and 20 marks for practical. This new policy is expected to relieve students’ stress.
