THE GOVERNMENT OF MEGHALAYA presented laptops to students from across the state for their academic excellence at a ceremony held in Shillong. The state government’s Department of Information Technology rewarded 126 students who came out with flying colours at the secondary and higher secondary examinations held earlier this year. The students were from schools affiliated to Meghalaya Board of School Education, CBSE, ICSE and ISC. Among them was Fernando Lawai, a visually impaired student, who scored 62 per cent marks at the Class X examination. This was the fifth year of the Meghalaya IT Awards for Meritorious Students scheme. Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and Information Technology Minister A. L. Hek were among those present. Last year, a total of 107 students were awarded. In his address, Mr. Sangma called upon the students to work hard to fulfil their dreams, and hoped that their achievement would inspire others.
